Qwen3-Max was introduced in September 2025 as a hosted model available through Alibaba Cloud's API and Qwen Chat. The Qwen team described a model with more than one trillion parameters, trained on approximately 36 trillion tokens, for language, coding and agent tasks.
The launch offered managed access to the Max tier rather than downloadable weights. It complemented the smaller open-weight Qwen3 checkpoints, giving developers a separate service for applications where they preferred hosted inference.
