Qwen-7B was released by Alibaba Cloud in August 2023 with the conversational Qwen-7B-Chat checkpoint. The models offered Chinese and English language capabilities, including work with code and mathematics, through weights developers could download and run.
The separate base and chat checkpoints supported further training or direct dialogue applications. They used a custom Tongyi Qianwen license with conditions on commercial use. Later Qwen generations expanded the sizes and changed licensing for some models; those later terms should not be assigned to the original 7B release.
