Its architecture interleaved Kimi Delta Attention, a linear-attention mechanism with recurrent memory, with a smaller proportion of global attention layers. The released base and instruction checkpoints had 48 billion total parameters, about three billion active parameters and support for one-million-token context.
The architectural aim was to reduce the memory and decoding costs associated with very long inputs. Moonshot published model weights and the attention kernel, enabling developers to investigate both the model and its implementation.
